Subject: [TCG] Official 2002 TCG June Meeting Minutes

The Tennessee Contest Group's June 2002 meeting was held 1 June at the Old
Country Buffet at Hendersonville at 3:30 P.M. The following members were
present and accounted for;

Jeff NY4N
Becky AF4QB
Jerry WB9BSH
Mark K0EJ

The only official business of the meeting was the re-presentation of the new
constitution to the Group for a vote. A vote was not taken due to the lack of
a quorum. An idea was brought up to maybe solve the voting dilemma.

The problem will always be getting the approximate 43 TCG members together to
vote on the measure. How about doing like the ARRL and mail out paper
ballots? It would work like this.

1. All TCG members with full voting rights will be sent a ballot. They would
mark on the ballot whether or not they want to ratify the new constitution.
They would sign the ballot with their name and call. This would also allow a
hard copy of votes cast in case of any disagreement. The list of all members
that are eligible to vote will be taken of the TCG webpage.

2. All members will be furnished a SASE to mail their marked ballot back, to
either Dan or Jeff. They will not be unsealed until the next official
meeting, where they would be opened and the vote tallied.

3. Jeff and Becky will agree to handle the ballot forms, and postage to and
from each member. The TCG will not be out any expense.

4. The old constitution says that 2/3 majority vote must agree to make
changes, it does not say how the vote may be taken. This may be a good
alternative.

The ballots could be mailed in a few days. The deadline to have the ballots
mailed back would need to be 1 July, 2002, so avoid the postal rate increase.
(EA Note: Dan, N7DLS, has been made aware of this idea before these actual
minutes were posted).

After posting of the official June minutes, if enough support for the idea is
posted on the reflector, the process will begin. Again, it was the consensus
of the Group at the meeting that this may be the only viable resolution at
this time. Comments on this suggestion are will be welcomed.

Other topics discussed was Field Day operation. Jeff and Becky plan on
working with the Dickson County ARC, whereas Mark most likely will be in
Minnesota, visiting a relative, and working FD with a Club there.

The Florida QSO Party was briefly brought up. Jeff and Becky discussed the
pros and cons working the contest mobile, having radio trouble, but finishing
with over 1000 qsos. Jeff feels like he may have come up short on this one,
NF4A may be top dog in the Single operator mobile class this year.

And while on the subject, the Tennessee QSO Party was discussed, and how
maybe to get more mobiles involved

The meeting adjourned at 5 P.M.

Respectfully Submitted
Jeff NY4N

Thanks to you folks at the meeting on Saturday for this idea. And
thanks to Jeff and Becky for volunteering to spearhead the mailing
campaign. We'll tally this at the next meeting.

Uncle Sam kept me on the range wasting ammo and cleaning weapons until
well after the meeting started Saturday, so I didn't get to make it to
see everyone.

Speaking of the next meeting--it will be held at my house here in
Columbia on July 6th from 9:00am to 6:00pm to give as many people as
want to the chance to drop by (come and go as you please, you don't have
to stay all day unless you want to). We'll have donuts and coffee in
the morning (for those of you poor souls that are addicted to it), burn
some burgers for lunch or something and generally have some radio fun
while we're at it.

The turnout at Kirk's a couple months ago indicated that alot of people
would favor a meeting a member's location from time-to-time. I realize
I don't have the caliber station that Kirk has, so maybe the incentive
to come see "toys" isn't quite as big, but if you folks are like me, you
always enjoy seeing someone else's station and see how they operate.

Anyway, you've got 4 weeks to make plans if you aren't already booked
for the holiday weekend elsewhere. I'll get information on 2m and 440
talk-in frequencies and other directions out a little later in the month
(probably the week between Field Day and the meeting).

Hope to see a bunch of you next month.
