TCG Meeting Minutes - February 23, 2002

The 2002 may meeting of the Tennessee Contest Group was held at the Old
Country Buffet in Hendersonville, Tennessee on 4 May 2002 at 3:30 pm. The
following members were present and accounted for:

Jeff NY4N
Dan N7DLS
Ric Wo4o
Jerry WB9BSH
Kirk K4RO

The business of the meeting was the presentation of the revamped TCG
Constitution to the members present. All wanted to thank Mark, K0EJ, for his
hard work and effort in preparing the document. It was also discussed that
one of the more important parts of the new document was the absentee voting,
allowing members with full membership the opportunity to vote by e-mail, (or
other means) if he/she could not make it to a meeting. This would be
especially beneficial for those who lived in the far corners of the State.
It was the consensus of the Group present that we get enough members to
attend a meeting to take a vote on whether to enact the new constitution or
reject it. If a 2/3's majority has to be present to make changes, we are
taking about 40-42 members. There may be a push to try to gather enough
members to take a vote at the June or July meeting.

Other topics discussed was Field Day plans. Dickson County ARC will be
running their usual QRP stations, Maury County ARC also plans on operating in
the event.

Members present commented on the lack of operating time on the air due to
lack of major contests available and the many days of severe weather in the
area.

Kirk commented that NES had taken care of the noise problem in the area,
for the most part. With his noise direction finding gismo, Kirk was able to
isolate a couple of problems areas, in which he advised NES. After a few days
of quiet, Kirk noticed that the noise problem was back.
With instuctions from NES, Kirk stated he took a sledge hammer and took a
few "swings" at a couple of problem poles, monitoring the noise level on his
rig through a pair of 220 handies. After a couple of licks, the problem
seemed to be solved again. That's taking matters into your own hands.

The last discussion of the day was maybe getting members to have programs
at the meetings. All topics of contesting and general radio operation would
be welcomed. If any member has any ideas on a possible presentation, please
make it known.

On a note that was not brought up at the meeting, the Tennessee Contest
Group has sponsored a plaque in the 2002 Georgia QSO Party, scheduled  for
the third weekend in July. As of this post, the check has been mailed to the
GAQP director, with his many thanks.

Respectfully Submitted,
NY4N Jeff EA
