Subject: [TCG] Official 2002 November TCG Meeting minutes

The November meeting of the Tennessee Contest Group took place at the Old
Country Buffet at Hendersonville on the 30th at 9:30 AM. The following
members were present and accounted for:

Becky AF4QB
Jeff NY4N
Doug W9WI
Jerry WB9BSH
Kirk K4RO

The meeting opened with Kirk giving a demonstration on RTTY and
contesting. He brought his lap top and explained how he uses TR Log in this
application. He also gave us a tour of his lap top with other programs
related to ham radio, and some that did not.

The meeting then continued with a discussion on some Group topics. With it
being the time to consider a new Facilitator and Executive Assistant for the
new upcoming year, an idea that was brought up a few weeks earlier:

Should the TCG divide the State in two or three districts, east, west and
middle, and have officers for each district?

The consensus of the members present was to leave the officer status like
it is, one Facilitator and Executive Assistant for the entire State. However,
it would be encouraged for members in the east and west section of the State
to set up meetings in their areas, and let the entire Group know when and
where by the reflector.
This should help those who need to meet the meeting quota to do so, and
also save long drive times to make the meetings in the middle sector, usually
in the Nashville area.

The topic of the Most Improved Contester (MIC) award was discussed. This
is not to be confused with the 2001 Radio Active Award (Randolph) awarded to
the Group member that earned the most Q's in a calendar year.
The MIC Award would be given to a TCG member who "most improves" over the
preceding year. For example, say AF4QB works 7 contests and collects 2100 Q's
in the year of 2002. In 2001, she only worked 5 contests and earned 1500 Q's.
Her "score" in 2002 would be the difference in the two years, a total of +
600.
Now this award will depend solely on the Radio Active Report put out by
Chuck, KE4OAR, and if Chuck feels comfortable doing this. Chuck does a
fantastic job of keeping these records.
The award will be issued for 2002. To be eligible, a TCG member would have
to be on the 2001 final Radio Active Report, to have a Q total to compare
with. It may take several weeks into 2003 before the winner can be
determined, giving Chuck plenty of time to post the final Radio Active Report
for 2002.
It is the responsibility of all TCG members to make sure Chuck is provided
with all of your claimed scores for the year. The MIC Award will begin on
January 1 of each year, and end on December 31 of the same year, UTC. The
Group may pitch in the funds for this Award, or it can be sponsored by an
individual Group member. Any comments or suggestions on the MIC Award are
welcomed and may be brought up in future meetings. Details to follow.

It is time to consider the new leadership for the Tennessee Contest Group
for the year 2003. The members at the meeting agreed that 2002 was a pretty
good year for the Group. A few names and calls were kicked around, but none
were nominated. The Group is now looking for volunteers for the Facilitator
and Executive Assistant.
Speaking from experience, it is not a hard job. So, if you feel you have
something to offer, please, by all means, volunteer for a position. If no one
comes forth, the consensus feels we may have to recycle old leaders to try
their hand again.

Last on the agenda was a discussion on competitive multi-op operations at
different station locations. This would be an "all out" effort by Group
members to finish first in a chosen category. Different stations, who could
accommodate a multi-multi or multi-single operation, could be considered.
Stay tuned for further developments.

The meeting ended around 11:30 AM

Respectfully submitted,
NY4N Jeff EA
